In 1981, Iliana graduated from the National School for Amateur Art Instructors, and later received her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from the Academy of Music and Dance Art in Plovdiv. She has worked as a choreographer with a number of ensembles, including the Children's Ensemble for Folk Dances in Bulgaria, Zarove in Holland, Kitka in Norway, and Bosilek in New York. Iliana has had successful teaching tours in Norway, Holland, Switzerland, Israel, Japan, Indonesia, Taiwan and Hong Kong, and has taught at a number of major camps in the U.S., including Stockton Folk Dance Camp, Old World Music & Dance Camp, Mendocino Folklore Camp, Balkan Camps at Mendocino and Ramblewood, Buffalo on the Danube and Mainewoods Dance Camp. Currently Iliana serves as Artistic Director of Ensemble Voivodintsi, the 70-person multi-generational folk dance ensemble from the village of Voivodinovo (near Plovdiv) and is the dance program coordinator for the annual Bulgarian Folk Music and Dance Seminar at the Music Academy in Plovdiv.

Todor Yankov

Accordionist, Singer and accompanist

Todor Yankov was born in 1962 in Plovdiv, but he grew up in the village of Dobralak in the Rhodopi Mountains in a large family. His father, Vasil Yankov, was a well-known gaida player in the area. Todor began to play gaida, like his father, at age six. Then when he was 10 years old, he took up kaval. He has played accordion since age 16 and is also an accomplished vocalist. For many years he played with the Hisar folk orchestra and has been the accordionist for the following folk ensembles: Rûchenitsa, Hebar, Pûldin and Ensemble Voivodintsi. He and Iliana also teach singing together, with multi-part harmony.
